HORACE “ED” EDMONDSON
A native of Cedartown, Georgia, Horace (Ed) Edmondson graduated from Cedartown High School and later earned his BSME degree from Clemson College.
He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines as an Assistant Engineer and the U.S. Army Rocket Research Department. After returning to Rome and 37 years later he retired from General Electric.
Ed has served the Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts in numerous positions for 65 years.
Each summer he is actively involved at Camp Sidney Dew and is very involved in the woodcarving area. He uses his talent of woodcarving teaching others at the camp. Over the years the Boy Scouts have awarded him with the Silver Beaver award, the order of the Arrow Founders Award, the Ellis Hale Eagle Award and the Camp Sidney Dew Alumni President’s Award.
Ed also teaches woodcarving classes at the Kid Versus Wild Camp at the Floyd County Wildlife Camp
He serves on the Senior Advisory Council at the Parker Senior Adult Center
According to nominator Doug Hamil, “One can only imagine the influence Ed has had on Boy Scouts through the years.”
For 59 years Ed has been a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church.
He and his wife, Gladys have four children and five grandchildren.
